It has been confirmed that Beattie tore a hamstring in The Hoops' 4-2 win over Dundee United on Sunday.
Beattie's seven goals this season have been invaluable to Celtic and the news will come as a major blow to manager Gordon Strachan.
But Strachan could at least console himself after fears over the fitness of midfielder Stephen Pearson were alleviated.
Pearson was withdrawn from Celtic's reserve match against Falkirk on Tuesday, however the medical staff revealed it was merely precautionary.
