Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara is desperate to get back to on-field matters after details of his contract were made public last week.

United take on city rivals Dundee at Dens Park on Wednesday, live on Sky Sports, in a match the former Scotland defender sees as the ideal opportunity to 'move on' from the fall-out.

Last week Tannadice chairman Stephen Thompson was forced to reveal details of McNamara's current deal after newspaper reports claimed he received payment from the sale of young players.

Figures as much as £500,000 were flatly denied but McNamara has since admitted he has such a clause in his contract where he will benefit when the club cash in on homegrown talent.

It's been frustrating as these things should be private, as I said, but there's nothing I can do about that and I just have to focus on my job.

Since the start of the season, four of United's best young players - Andy Robertson, Ryan Gauld, Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven - have left, earning the club around £8m in transfer fees.

But speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, McNamara, whose side have failed to win in nine matches, said: "I think it was made clear by the club on Friday and there's been a lot of fall-out from that.

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara looks ahead to the derby against city rivals Dundee, hoping to end a run of nine games without a win.

"It's obviously disappointing when these things come out in the first place but my focus is on the team and to make sure we get the results, starting with the derby where we have a good chance to get three points against our biggest rivals.

'Develop'

"It's been frustrating as these things should be private, as I said, but there's nothing I can do about that and I just have to focus on my job.

"The club explained it all well and why they brought me here to develop young players and to make sure we survive first and foremost as a club. That's my job since I've been here. Nothing has changed and I will continue to do that as long as I am here.

"Now I just want to concentrate on the game, a game which I know will be tough after they got a good point at Inverness at the weekend and seem to be doing well as they strive to get into the top six."

Asked if the derby affords his side, and himself, the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways, McNamara added: "Of course. It is important for all of us for different reasons. For the fans, they want the bragging rights in the city and we want to keep that record against them.

"The run of games we have had recently, including the four games against Celtic, it has been a tough spell, although we were a bit unfortunate at the weekend against Ross County (lost 2-1 at home) but we have a good chance on Wednesday to get the fans back on our side.

"It will be a great occasion for the fans and I am looking forward to talking about the football side of things again."
