Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon insists he will not rest on his laurels after making his return to football this season.

The former Hearts and Sunderland stopper was out of action for two years because of serious knee problems.

His return to the game last summer surprised many people, but the 31-year-old has confounded his critics with a memorable start to his Celtic career.

As well as impressing in domestic competition, Gordon has been outstanding for Celtic in the Europa League, where his consistency has helped the team to a last 32 encounter with Inter Milan next February.

And his form was also recognised by Scotland boss Gordon Strachan, who rewarded Gordon with a recall to the squad, playing him as a second half substitute in the recent friendly against England.

Gordon is aware Celtic are looking to strengthen their squad, and believes he will have to stay at the top of his game to remain first-choice in the team.

Gordon said: “I put the hard work in. I did everything I possibly could, and thankfully it’s enabled me to get to a point in fitness where I could then concentrate on football.

“I can’t rest on that now. I’ve got to continue to push on and still try and improve.

“There is still a possibility of goalkeepers coming in, so I have try and continue to keep pushing as hard as I can to maintain my levels.”
