Scottish Premier League: Inverness boss John Hughes unhappy with refereeing in win over St Mirren

Inverness manager John Hughes was highly critical of referee Willie Collum for booking eight players and dismissing another during the Jags’ 1-0 win over St Mirren.

Greg Tansey's first-half penalty secured all three points for Inverness, who had Ryan Christie sent off in the 50th minute for a second bookable offence.

Hughes was highly critical of Collum’s performance after the game and felt the decision to send off Christie was unwarranted.

"There were never eight bookings in that game, only Ryan's first was correct in my opinion," Hughes said. "The referee really spoiled it as far as I'm concerned.

"I didn't enjoy it, it was a horrible game, after the red card all the players were walking on eggshells.

"It was comical at times, people were frightened to tackle. And if that was a red card then I'm the next man on the moon.

"I really feel for Ryan Christie. He's a talented young footballer and certainly didn't deserve that second yellow card.

"But being down to 10 men we adapted well, we changed the shape a couple of times though we can still be better than we were today."

St Mirren manager Tommy Craig was disappointed with his side’s inability to break down the 10 men of Inverness in the second half and acknowledged they need a result against bottom-of-the-table Ross County next week.

"The game was going along pretty well for us in the first half but we failed to create any proper clear-cut chances and they went up the park and got a really soft penalty,” Craig said.

"It's been a bugbear of mine for many years facing 10 men. It galvanised Inverness and it was hard for us to break them down.

"We didn't really have any chances after that, there were clearances, bodies on the line and some scrapes but I cannot fault the players as they couldn't have given us anymore in the game.

"And after seeing the other results today it would have been a great game for us to win, but we have to do much more.

"I guess then everyone will now be saying next week's game against Ross County is a six pointer - but we will be ready for it."
