Gers newcomer hopes to play against Celtic

Rangers midfielder Matt McKay is looking forward to the chance of playing in the Old Firm derby against Celtic on Sunday. The two fierce Glasgow rivals confront each other in a Scottish Premier League clash at Ibrox with Ally McCoist's Rangers in pole position with 16 points from six matches, one more than Celtic. And McKay, who joined the Gers from Brisbane Roar in the summer, is relishing the prospect of making his bow in the famous fixture. "I know it's going to be hectic and there will be tackles flying in," the Australia international told Rangers' official website. "The atmosphere will be incredible as well so I'm looking forward to it. If I'm needed, I'll be ready to play. "I've watched the derby before back in Australia and there have obviously been a fair few Aussies taking part in it over the last few years. "With the passion and the big crowd, it's something I'm desperate to be part of. Long before I had a chance to come to Rangers, the Old Firm game was one I'd have loved to play in."

Ready for more

Last season Celtic and Rangers faced each other on seven different occasions and McKay is ready should a similar situation arise this term. "I've got no problems with playing more than seven games with Celtic," enthused the 28-year-old. "They're the type of games we want to be playing in all the time. "Every footballer wants to play in big matches and that's why we all play the game. We want to play in the most important ones. "We want to knock Celtic off their stride because this is going to be another big year and after three titles in a row, we want to make it four."
