Hibs assistant in County return

Derek Adams has left his post as Hibernian's assistant manager for a second stint as Ross County boss.

Adams leaves Easter Road after just six months under Calderwood

Derek Adams has left his post as assistant manager at Hibernian for a second stint as manager of Ross County. Adams led County to last season's Scottish Cup final, where they lost to Dundee United after beating Celtic and Hibs. He left the Staggies in November to become Colin Calderwood's No.2 at Easter Road but has now taken the opportunity to return to Victoria Park. "I have enjoyed my time in Edinburgh and am sorry to be leaving Hibernian, but the chance to be a manager again at Ross County is just too good an opportunity to turn down," Adams said. County only just maintained their first division status under caretaker boss Jimmy Calderwood, finishing one place above the drop zone. "The past year has been difficult for the club, however, we are delighted that Derek Adams has agreed to return as manager," said County chairman Roy MacGregor. Hibs flirted with relegation from the SPL this season before finishing third-bottom, yet manager Calderwood has called for the introduction of relegation/promotion play-offs, just as there are in Scotland's lower leagues.

Play-off proposal

"The way forward for me in Scottish football would be the introduction of play-offs - the greater danger and the greater amount of teams with the threat of going down - because it would bring more crowds out," he said. "It would bring revenue, television - all that sort of thing. "In our moment of danger in the season, it brought us good support so I think we should not be so worried about it. I think it would be a good thing. There has to be an opportunity for two to come up and the opportunity for two to go down the way it works for the rest of the league. You cannot have it one way for the top leagues and different for the others." Meanwhile, on-loan full-back Richie Towell would welcome the prospect of a return to Hibs.
Towell future
The 19-year-old Irishman will hold talks with Celtic boss Neil Lennon this summer but would relish the chance to add to his 16 appearances on loan this season. "I'm not too sure yet; whether or not I'm going to be back at Celtic next season, coming back to Hibs on loan or even permanently," Towell told Hibs' official website. "It is all up in the air but hopefully it will be sorted out soon. "I don't think I could've asked for a bigger move. To come to a club like Hibs and play regularly has been phenomenal - I've really enjoyed it."
