Gers boss looking to retain Bosnian defender

Rangers manager Walter Smith has confirmed the club are 'very close' to agreeing new terms with full-back Sasa Papac. The Bosnian defender is out of contract in the summer and could leave on a free transfer unless a fresh contract is secured. Smith has been pleased with Papac, who is in his fourth season for the SPL giants, this term and is keen to extend his contract. Gers' manager likes Papac's demeanour and is hopeful all parties can agree on an extended deal in the coming fays.

Excellent

"We're keen to keep Sasa here," he told the club's official website. "He is someone who has been excellent for us and I think he is probably one of the longest-serving players now. "From our point of view, we would like to keep him. He is an unsung hero if you like and is a quiet lad who goes about his game quietly. "He doesn't like to cause any fuss and has been very effective for us in the way he has handled his change of position (from centre-half to left-back) and adapted to it. "I think we are very close to reaching agreement with him and I'd hope that would be done in the next few days."
