Veteran stopper may not have damaged knee

Dundee United have been boosted by the news that Darren Dods' knee injury is not as bad as initially feared. Dods has not played since being replaced in United's 2-1 SPL win at Kilmarnock last month. It had been thought the veteran stopper would require a knee operation after suffering suspected cartilage damage. A specialist suspects Dods may only have suffered bruising on the bone, meaning he could be back sooner than expected. "Darren is doing some running so we'll monitor him," confirmed assistant manager Gary Kirk.
