Lockwood urges caution

Bees defender wary of relaxing too soon

Barnet's on-loan defender Matt Lockwood insists the club are not safe from the threat of relegation just yet, despite sitting 11 points above of the bottom two. The Bees returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over play-off chasers Chesterfield on Monday, but Grimsby's shock win at Accrington maintained their hopes of beating the drop. Lockwood, who is currently on loan at Underhill from Colchester United, admits the job is almost done but insists no-one can rest easy until they are mathematically clear of the Mariners. "We are 11 points from safety, which is a nice cushion, but it doesn't make us mathematically safe," the experienced full-back told skysports.com. "There are seven games to go, so we would like to think that we are safe, but football is a funny old game and anything can happen.

Concentration

"Grimsby only need to win four games, with us losing the same amount and we change places. "You've just got to concentrate on yourself, but at the same time thinking the worst because that keeps you on your toes." Lockwood's loan spell at Barnet expires in late April, which means he will miss the final few games of the season, but he is hoping those fixtures will not decide whether the Bees stay up or not. "I will miss the last couple of games of the season because the loan will expire in late April, but it isn't going to be a big deal by then as hopefully, fingers crossed, Barnet will be safe by then."
