Midfielder returns to Middle East

French midfielder Toufik Zerara has left Falkirk after the club could not meet his wage demands. The former French Under-21 star signed a short-term contract with the Bairns in November but this has now expired. The 23-year-old, who joined the Bairns from Al Dhafra in the UAE, had wanted to stay at the Falkirk Stadium and had impressed boss Eddie May in this three appearances for the SPL's bottom club. But the club failed to meet his wage demands and he has now returned to the Middle East.

Last day

May told the Daily Record: "Toufik had his last day with us yesterday. We couldn't match what he wanted and he has gone to the Middle East again. "He enjoyed his time here and hopefully we have helped him get something out there. "He was on good money in the Middle East and we can't cope with that. "Toufik did a good job but there are constraints at this club. We have to respect the situation." May revealed he is attempting to bolster his squad with two more signings this month, adding: "I think we need a couple more players in January and will look to try to do that."
