Reid opts against retaining midfielder

Hamilton manager Billy Reid has confirmed the SPL club have released midfielder Gary Mason. The former Dunfermline player moved to New Douglas Park in August on a short-term deal. Mason's deal was due to expire at the end of the year, but with limited opportunities ahead of him Reid has acted now. Reid was pleased to add Mason, who made five league starts, to his squad while his numbers were depleted earlier in the campaign.

Short of bodies

"Gary was brought in so we could have a look at him," explained Reid. "It suited him as he was also looking for a club. "(Alex) Neil was also out injured at the time and we were short of bodies in the middle of the park. "Gary did a good job and is a top professional but he was getting frustrated. He wasn't getting many chances and we didn't want to stand in his way. "He's a very fit guy and I'm sure he will do someone else a turn."
