Motherwell keeper Graeme Smith is still weighing up his options after being offered a new deal.

Smith weighing up whether to try his luck in a different league

Motherwell goalkeeper Graeme Smith admits he is still weighing up his options after being offered a new contract. Smith's current deal expires at the end of the season and he has been linked with a move to SPL rivals Hibernian. He has been offered a deal to stay at Fir Park, but is keen to take his time before committing to a decision. "There's a week left in the season and I haven't decided what I'm doing yet," said Smith in the Sunday Mail. "I want to see what my options are, I have been up front with the gaffer and he has been great with me. "I'm going to Tenerife in the summer and any player would like to have their future sorted yesterday, but these things take time. "It was the same when I left Rangers to join Motherwell. I was in Mexico and a phone call came through. It had been months of waiting then a 60-second conversation sorted it. "Motherwell want to keep me and I appreciate the offer, but I fully understand their position and the door could be closed at some stage."

Seeking advice

The keeper, who joined Motherwell from Rangers in 2005, admits he has been seeking advice over whether to move to a different league. He added: "I don't know what happens next - it's whatever comes your way. Every player wants to perform at the highest level, but who knows where that is. "I spoke to Ross McCormack a couple of weeks ago. He said he loves Cardiff and told me a bit about what it's like there. "You talk to other guys who have been down south to get an idea of what's out there. "To be honest you speak to everyone - I even asked Maros Klimpl about Slovakia. Big Bob Malcolm knows a couple of people in Australia, so I chatted to him and asked what it's like."
