Hibs boss denies Smith deal

Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen has denied reports he wants to sign Motherwell keeper Graeme Smith.

Paatelainen's priority is to keep Szamotulski at Easter Road

Mixu Paatelainen has denied speculation that he is looking to bring Motherwell goalkeeper Graeme Smith to Hibernian. Smith's deal at Fir Park expires at the end of the season and reports have claimed that Hibs had lined up a pre-contract agreement. However, rather than finalise a deal for Smith, Hibs boss Paatelainen has confirmed he wants to keep hold of Grzegorz Szamotulski. The Pole joined Hibs in January and Paatelainen is trying to reach a suitable financial agreement with the former Dundee United keeper.

Good job

"This is just some agent's way of advertising his player," said Paatelainen in the Daily Record about the Smith rumours. "There have not been any talks with Smith at all. "We are very happy with Szamo and we will see what happens there. "I think he has done a good job for us since he came into the team and obviously we've got to look at that situation. "His wage demands are quite big, but he enjoys it here, he enjoys training and playing with the rest of the boys, so we will have to wait and see."
