Aberdeen are reeling from the impending loss of three players - leading to fears over boss Jimmy Calderwood's position at Pittodrie.
Chris Clark, Michael Hart and Barry Nicholson could leave for more lucrative deals in England.
But on a more positive note, Zander Diamond is now set to sign a new contract on Thursday after Aberdeen increased his original offer.
The loss of the three players has come as a "big blow" to Dons boss Calderwood, who is himself waiting on new deal, amid fears about the club's ability to sign suitable replacements to continue the improvement which has seen the team reach the last 32 in the Uefa Cup.
Future
Speaking of the situation, Calderwood told the
Daily Record: "Obviously, losing these players will be a factor in deciding my future. No manager wants to lose good players but it's not all about Jimmy Calderwood.
"Jimmy Nicholl and Sandy Clark have to be happy with the situation at the club as well as me. I think we all know where the club is coming from but we need clarity on the situation and we need it soon.
"It's a big blow for everyone at this club that these three players are leaving. We've built up a very good squad but every player has a choice to make.
"However, each club has its limits as to what can be done. Aberdeen has to be here in 100 years and can only do so much."
He added he is sure there will be players who will be happy to come to play for the salaries which are available at the club and the prospect of competing in Europe.
"To be honest though I didn't expect three to be leaving in the January sales," added Calderwood.
Re-building
"But our supporters must realise that out with the Old Firm and Hearts, clubs in the Conference can pay more than the rest of us in the SPL. We probably now have a whole re-building job on our hands."
Aberdeen have accepted Plymouth's £175,000 bid for Hart, but he could still move to Preston who are only prepared to pay £100,000.
Nicholson would still like to play for the club if he can get a better deal.
He said: "As long as the offer is still on the table I'd be willing to discuss it with Aberdeen as I'm not desperate to leave. I've rejected the contract as it stands but if something can still be worked out then I would be happy to stay."
