Sunderland defender heads out on loan

Young Sunderland defender Michael Liddle has joined Leyton Orient on a six-month loan deal. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international will stay at Brisbane Road until 24th December and is set to make his debut in Orient's opening League One game of the season at Yeovil on Saturday. Os boss Russell Slade has moved swiftly to bolster his options at left-back with Charlie Daniels facing a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. The 20-year-old Liddle, who has come through the youth ranks at the Stadium of Light, spent a spell on loan with Carlisle during the 2008/09 campaign. Slade told Orient's official website: "Michael has joined us on loan, and I'm really pleased to have brought in a left-back in time for the start of the season. "We know Charlie will be out for a few weeks, so it was important to sign a left-back and I'm sure Michael will do well for us. "He has experience of this division from his time with Carlisle and we're looking forward to working with him here."
