Swiss youth international joins United from derby rivals

Manchester United have announced the signing of teenager defender Frederic Veseli from derby rivals Manchester City. The versatile Switzerland Under 20 centre-back was scouted from City's Academy side and has admitted it is an 'honour' to move to United, where he will join the reserve team set-up. Veseli, 19, who first moved to England in 2008 from Lausanne Sport, has been tipped to eventually become a defensive midfielder and he is looking forward to developing at United. "I am very happy and it is an honour to sign for Manchester United," he told his new club's official website. "I can't wait to get started, to work hard and do everything I can to help the team. I am looking forward to showing everybody what I can do on the pitch." Veseli captained Switzerland to victory in the Under 17 World Cup in 2009 and last summer got his first taste of senior club football during City's pre-season tour of North America. He added: "I am very thankful to Sir Alex Ferguson for bringing me to such a great club. "Manchester United has a long history of younger players coming through and hopefully I can follow and do the same."
