Silkmen boss admits youngster is top drawer

Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander admits he is not surprised clubs are interested in signing talented youngster John Rooney. The teenager, who is the younger brother of Manchester United and England international Wayne, has reportedly been attracting interest from Premier League clubs. Rooney began his career at Everton, but was released by the Toffees in 2007 and was signed on a two-year professional contract by the Moss Rose outfit last summer.

Best footballer

"John is probably the best footballer at this club," he told the Manchester Evening News. "He can consider himself unlucky to have been out of the team on Saturday. "I'm not surprised people from clubs higher up are watching him."
Wage demands
Meanwhile, Alexander has confirmed he is looking to bring in a striker, but fears his wage demands could scupper the deal. "We've been trying for the last few days to bring someone in who got a lot of goals for his club last season," he continued. "But it might be out of the question due to the sums of money in wages we're talking about."
