Owls midfielder unlikely to go back to Gresty Road on loan

Crewe Alexandra have played down rumours of a bid to bring Kenny Lunt back to Gresty Road on loan. The midfielder left Crewe for Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2006, but has made just four Championship appearances this season. He has been linked with a return to his first club, but an imminent deal is not in the pipeline, according to first-team coach Steve Holland. "Kenny is a player we have always discussed because he is a good player and a terrific lad - I have known him for over 15 years and have always got on with him very well," Holland told the club's official website. "We are strong in the midfield area - it is an area we have strengthened over the summer with Boppy (Eugen Bopp) and Schuey (Steven Schumacher) coming in and Mark Carrington has made great strides this season as well. "We have enough players here who can play in central midfield and I would like to give our own players a chance there rather than bring someone in on a short-term loan, although we know how influential Kenny is as a player and as a person." Meanwhile, Crewe midfielder Schumacher is out for another six weeks after suffering an ankle injury in training. Schumacher returned from a hamstring problem as a late substitute in the FA Cup over the weekend, but is now likely to be out until the festive period.
