Promising midfield duo commit to long-term contracts

Midfield duo Chris Lines and Ben Swallow have both committed their futures to Bristol Rovers. Lines, 24, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the League One outfit while 20-year-old Swallow has put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half year contract. Both have made a good impression at the Memorial Stadium this season, with Lines attracting attention from Championship clubs. But Rovers have ended speculation by securing their services with a contract extension. "We are all very pleased to have tied up these two deals," chairman Nick Higgs told the club's official website. "Chris Lines is a local lad and a key member of our squad, and to have secured his future is very important to us.

Highly sought-after

"He was highly sought-after by other clubs, but he has committed himself to us. "Ben has made some impressive performances this season, he is a very bright prospect and we are glad to see him commit his future to Bristol Rovers. "We value our youngsters and are committed to building for the future." Director of football Lennie Lawrence revealed how the level of interest in Lines led to a rethink over his new deal. "It was originally only going to be an 18-month contract but we decided that it was in everyone's best interests to make it a long-term deal, and Chris was happy to commit his long-term future to this club," he added.
