MK Dons aim to keep McLeod

Milton Keynes Dons are aiming to reward striker Izale McLeod with a new contract.

Milton Keynes Dons are aiming to reward young striker Izale McLeod with a new contract.

McLeod proved an instant hit with the League One side after joining the club on a free transfer from Derby County last summer.

In a team which battled against relegation for the entire season, McLeod chipped in with 16 league goals to fire MK Dons to safety.

His exploits have seen him linked with Aston Villa, although the 20-year-old is not likely to be ready for The Premiership at this stage of his career.

But MK Dons boss Danny Wilson is determined to ward off interest in the promising hit-man by handing McLeod a new deal.

Wilson has opened talks with McLeod and will hope he can thrash out a deal with the youngster before the start of the new season.
