Reading striker Mathieu Manset has joined Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on loan until June 30th. The 22-year-old Frenchman will link up with former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka in the Far East, a prospect he is relishing. Manset has featured predominately off the bench for Reading this season and manager Brian McDermott understands his desire to play regular first-team football. McDermott has revealed he did not want the former Hereford United man to leave, but the striker was adamant about making the move to China.

"I don't necessarily want him to go, but he was adamant he wants to play games and I understand that," McDermott told the club's official website. "He'll come back ready for pre-season. I've played in Hong Kong and it was a massive club in Asia, it'll be different for him, but also a good experience." Manset is excited about the prospect of playing in a new country and lining up alongside countryman Anelka, stating: "I'm excited to be going to a new country. "I think I'll learn a lot with Nicolas Anelka. He's a France international. He's played for Chelsea and when I come back I'll be ready to play here and score goals."
