Pools battle for Daly

Hartlepool United look set to beat Rochdale to the signing of Stockport striker Jon Daly.

Hartlepool United look set to beat Rochdale to the signing of Stockport striker Jon Daly.

Both clubs have had bids accepted for the 22-year-old, who is now set for talks with Hartlepool

"We had an offer accepted at one stage but the player has chosen to speak to Hartlepool United because he'd prefer to play football at the highest standard possible," said Dale boss Steve Parkin.

"I can totally understand his decision and we'll just have to wait and see what comes from this and whether or not we get the opportunity to speak to him ourselves.

Meanwhile, Dale have had a second bid for Morecambe striker Wayne Curtis rejected.

Rochdale director Jim Fagan confirmed that they had failed with a fresh bid for the 24-year-old.

"We thought the offer was a fair one for a player with no league experience and whom is out of contract in the summer," said Fagan.

"Steve Parkin was obviously very keen to add Wayne to his squad as he attempts to push for the play-offs, but we have now had two offers turned down and we are likely to turn our attentions elsewhere."

In other news, Dale have handed a contract extension to striker Leighton McGivern - who will now remain at Spotland until the end of the season.

Midfielder Neil Brisco has extended his loan deal at non-league Northwich Victoria by another month.
