Micky Adams has left his role as Tranmere Rovers manager by mutual consent.

Adams has failed to master a reverse in fortunes at the struggling Sky Bet League Two club, who go into the final two games of the season bottom of the table.

The 53-year-old had been in charge since October 2014 when he took over from Rob Edwards, who was sacked after a slow start to the season which left them bottom after 12 matches.

Rovers have lost their last four games and not won since March 17 when they beat Cambridge 2-1 for their first victory in nearly a month.

Adams failed to show for his post-match press conference after Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Oxford while supporters demonstrated outside the ground, calling for him to leave.

A club statement read: "Assistant Manager Alan Rogers and Academy Manager Shaun Garnett will take temporary charge of first team affairs.

"We thank Micky for his work at Tranmere Rovers having taken over the club at a difficult time and wish him all the best for the future.

"The focus of the first team and everybody at the club is now on the fight to the finish with a game at Plymouth Argyle on April 25 when three points could lift them above both Hartlepool United and Cheltenham Town."

Tranmere have 39 points from their 44 games so far, with Cheltenham one point ahead of them and Hartlepool a further point in front on 41.

Next weekend's trip to Plymouth is followed by a home game against promotion-chasing Bury in their final fixture of the season on May 2.
