Defender on move after Dagenham deal ditched

Gareth Gwillim has signed a one-year deal with AFC Wimbledon after being released from his contract by Dagenham & Redbridge. The 28-year-old reached an agreement with the Daggers to cancel his terms by mutual consent and he has now put pen to paper with the League Two newcomers on terms which also include a further 12-month option. The defender spent the second half of last season on loan with the Dons, making 20 appearances as they secured promotion from the Blue Square Premier. Gwillim admitted that the opportunity to play regularly with Wimbledon persuaded him that his future lay away from Dagenham, who were keen to retain his services.

Switched over

He told the Surrey Herald: "All of the paperwork and everything has been sent over to the FA so it is just a matter of the registration being cancelled and everything getting switched over to here. "After being a part of what happened last season, I really wanted to be a part of the first season in the league. "I have signed a deal and we are literally just waiting for it all to go through so we can announce it. "I did the first three days of pre-season training with Dagenham and then they were kind enough to let me go - it wasn't working out. "They [Dagenham] said I could've stayed so they didn't want me to go but they understand that I want to play football."
