New signing wants to help Bluebirds soar to top flight

New Cardiff City signing Chris Riggott has told skysports.com he is excited to have joined "a club on the up" and is determined to help them realise their dreams of reaching the Premier League. The defender joined the Bluebirds as a free agent earlier this month after leaving Championship rivals Middlesbrough, where he spent seven years. The former England Under-21 international, who has yet to feature for Dave Jones' side as he builds up his fitness, is looking forward to the challenges ahead. The Bluebirds currently sit in second in the Championship and Riggott would love to help them finally gain promotion after suffering the heart-break of defeat in the play-off final to Blackpool last year. The 30-year-old said: "It's a really exciting time to be playing for a club on the up and the city is buzzing here. "I am thankful to Cardiff City for the opportunity and it would be great to play in the Premier League for a third time.

Try our hardest

"This club deserves top flight football and we're all going to try our hardest to make sure that happens." Riggott says Craig Bellamy, who has been sidelined recently with a troublesome knee injury after a fine start with his hometown club, has already made big impression on him. "I was surprised to see Craig Bellamy drop a division, but we all know why he has," said Riggott. "The stadium, the fans, the players already here make everything so inviting, and the manager never had to sell the place to me - I could see it all for myself. "Craig is a big presence at the club and if he can continue to produce what he has so far, then it can only help us achieve our aim."
