Dillon moves for goal-shy striker

Aldershot have agreed a deal to sign Damian Spencer on a one-year contract. The 28-year old spent the final three months of the season on loan from Kettering, but despite failing to score for the Shots, manager Kevin Dillon has been sufficiently impressed to offer the player a contract. The former Cheltenham forward has never been a prolific goalscorer, however Dillon insisted that he his best work often goes unnoticed. "Damian is a player that is more appreciated by his team-mates and they like playing with him," Dillon told the club's official website. "I looked at the games last season and he got into some good positions and should have scored some goals. However the fact that he can get into those positions was a major reason why we signed him. "I believe that he does have goals in him and he just needs a stroke of luck to get it started. I look at him in other areas though that go unnoticed. His defensive capabilities especially at set-pieces are excellent. "He attacks the ball well and causes problems. He has an ability to drag players onto him that creates other space for his colleagues. "As far as the team is concerned they all know what great value he is to them and if he can get some goals in too then that would be an added bonus. "He has excellent experience at this level. He will always work in football because he is popular and is a team player and I am delighted to be able to secure his services for next season because he will be an important part of the plans."
