Davey's first signing lured by League Two opportunity

Central defender Janos Kovacs has become Simon Davey's first signing as Hereford United manager. The 24-year-old has signed a two-year-deal at Edgar Street after leaving Blue Square Premier side Luton Town. Kovacs only arrived at Kenilworth Road in January 2010 but featured 17 times for the Hatters last term and is now the first acquisition of the Davey regime. "'I am thrilled at the opportunity of playing back in the Football League and from the first meeting I had with Simon Davey I knew this is where I wanted to be playing next season," said the former Hungarian U-21 international.

Key player

Bulls boss Davey, who took over the Hereford reigns after quitting his post as Darlington boss last month, reckons Kovacs will be a significant performer in League Two next season. "I am delighted at signing such a quality central defender in Janos and I think he will be a very key part of the squad in the coming season." Luton boss Richard Money accepted Kovacs' exit after explaining the much-travelled defender needed to play at a higher level. "Janos made it clear to us that if a chance arose to play football in the Football League then he would like to take it," Money said of the former Chesterfield, York and Lincoln City schemer. "Obviously Hereford can offer him such an opportunity and I would like to thank him for his efforts during his time with us and wish him all the best with his new club."
