Bristol Rovers captain Stuart Campbell expects to sign a two-year contract in the next few days.
The midfielder always wanted to remain with the club but his future appeared in doubt because the club had only initially offered a one-year extension.
The Pirates have now made an improved offer and he is pleased the matter looks set to be resolved.
"Talks are at an advanced stage and hopefully everything should be completed in the next couple of days," Campbell told the Bristol Evening Post.
"I'd said before that it was a bit unsettling going into the final stages of the season not knowing what my future would be.
"At this stage of my career I needed a deal that would offer some security for myself and my family. Hopefully things should now be concluded soon."
