Forest get McKenna boost

Billy Davies believes injured skipper Paul McKenna could return for Nottingham Forest this season.

Skipper's injury not as bad as first feared

Billy Davies believes injured skipper Paul McKenna could still play a part in Nottingham Forest's promotion push. The 32-year-old midfielder was thought to have suffered serious knee ligament damage during the weekend's 1-0 victory against Swansea. But scans have now indicated that the injury is not as bad as first feared and the defender does not require surgery. While McKenna did suffer damage to his medial ligament and will be out for several weeks, Davies is hopeful that he will be back before the season ends as Forest push for promotion to the Premier League.

Plans

The Forest boss told the club's official website: "Paul's injury is not as bad as we first feared. "He will be out of my plans for several weeks but knowing Paul as I do I wouldn't necessarily rule him out for the rest of the season." McKenna has been a key player for Forest this term, starting in every game in the Championship following his summer arrival from Preston North End. Davies has previously spoken of trying to bring in cover via the loan market while McKenna is out.
