Striker signs three-year contract

Dagenham's preparations for the new season have received a major boost after prolific striker Paul Benson signed a new three-year contract. Benson, who had one year left on his previous deal, has attracted interest from Gillingham and Shrewsbury this summer. However, the 29-year-old is delighted to have committed his long-term future to the Daggers. "Last Thursday the gaffer (John Still) told me that an offer had come in for me," Benson said. "He asked me to consider the possible move and give him my views on whether it was something I was interested in. He added: "I thought it best to negotiate a new contract now so that we can all concentrate on the forthcoming season knowing where we're all at. "It took about four or five days to fully negotiate but the gaffer, the club and myself are all happy with the final package." Benson joined the League Two outfit from Essex Intermediate League side White Ensign four years ago and has been the club's leading scorer for the last three seasons.
