Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander believes losing defender James Jennings for the rest of the season due to injury will be a big blow.
The Manchester-born defender, who has been a regular for the Silkmen this season, has been ruled out with knee ligament damage picked up in the 3-1 defeat at Gillingham at the end of February.
Alexander knows finding an adequate replacement could prove to be a difficult task, especially as the club are restricted in what they can do by stringent financial constraints.
"It's always a blow to lose one of your regular players and he has been playing well for the last few months, but unfortunately he has picked up an injury and these things happen in football," he told
skysports.com.
"You just have to get on with it and give him the best possible treatment so that he can return as quickly as possible.
"At this moment in time we just have to wait and see if he can return before the end of the season. If he has to be in a cast for eight weeks after the operation I think it will be very unlikely that he can play before the end of the season, so it does look doubtful.
"We are always looking to bring people in, but expectations seem to have risen lately, as we lost to Bradford by a single goal on Tuesday night and they are a good side in this division.
"The realism has gone out of football I think, as they are getting good gates every week and can play players much higher wages than we could dream of, with players on loan from clubs such as Sheffield United.
"Whereas we are getting 1,100 people every week and can't afford to pay the wages that clubs such as Bradford can offer players, so the expectations have to be lowered to cope with the pressures of financial security."
