Magpies soothe Edwards fears

Notts County have allayed fears that Mike Edwards could miss the whole season.

Notts County have allayed fears that Mike Edwards could miss the whole season.

The defender picked up a terrible leg injury during last week's pre-season friendly at St Blazey that sparked concerns he could be sidelined for 12 months.

Edwards suffered a double fracture to his right leg, a dislocated ankle, and there has also been ligament damage to the joint.

He is due to undergo an operation on Tuesday, with The Magpies hopeful Edwards will be able to return just after Christmas.

"Mike is having an operation in the morning, and from there he will be in plaster for a month," physio John Haselden told the club's official website.

"After that, he will be wearing a special boot to get the ankle moving. He has a 'tricky' injury if you like.

"However, the surgeon has said that if everything goes according to plan Mike is looking at a return just after Christmas."
