Steve Evans has back-tracked on his claim that some people at the Football League do not want Rotherham in the Sky Bet Championship.

Evans stated that the number of decisions going against his side this season was a sign that some people among the game's governing body would prefer the Millers to be in League One.

The exasperated comment came in the wake of last week's 2-1 defeat at Blackburn, where Evans' men were denied a penalty in the first half.

But in the build up to Tuesday's clash with high-flying Derby, Evans retracted his claim.

He said: "We all say things in the heat of the battle, don't we?

"But go and ask Gary Johnson what he thought when Yeovil were here, or go and ask Paul Dickov what he thought of Doncaster's decisions when they were in the Championship and they will say the same.

"Some of them are quite hard to take.

"There are some very honest people at the Football League, (head of referees) David Allison is never frightened to call me and look at a decision and he has been calling me for a number of weeks now saying we've got that wrong and we've got that wrong.

"You accept their integrity as men, but sometimes it just gets to me a little bit.

"We should have had a penalty at Blackburn, sometimes it just smashes your head as a manager but you just have to take it on the chin.

"We just want a fair crack, that's all we ask.

"The refereeing at the Championship has been poor this season.

"The referees have the hardest job of all, how can you please two managers and two sets of fans? It's an impossible task. But it's hard to take when it's a continuation going against you."
