Rotherham striker Paul Warne will continue playing for as long as he can, but is worried the decision may no longer be up to him.
The 37-year-old missed almost the whole of last season with a broken leg but enjoyed a good start to this campaign, scoring in the 1-0 win at Hereford.
However the former Oldham and Yeovil forward admitted that despite being as keen as ever to carry on playing, it is now up to his manager when to call time on his professional career.
"Once you hit 30 and you start being called a 'veteran' in the newspaper after scoring a goal that is a hard pill to swallow for most people," he told
skysports.com.
"I might have lost half a yard of pace, but I have never had a lot of that anyway. I think that as you get older and more wiser you start to look after your body more, for example I'd never go out for a few drinks on a Saturday night any more.
Manager's decision
"You understand your body more when you get over 30 and I have always been a bit of a fitness freak anyway, so I don't think my body will be the judge of when I finish playing.
"I reckon it will be more the case of a manager deciding when it is time to quit, so it is kind of out of my hands when I hang up my boots.
"Things have changed though and as long as you can stay away from injuries and look after yourself you can play for a lot longer, especially at this level because it isn't like I am playing in the Premier League.
"I'm hoping to get another couple of years still, but sometimes these decisions are made by other people."
