Chesterfield trial trio

Roy McFarland is casting his eye over three prospective signings.

Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland is casting his eye over three prospective signings in the January transfer window.

McFarland's squad is in desperate need of strengthening as injuries take their toll.

Alex Bailey, Alan O'Hare and Jamie Lowry are all out through injury or illness and Kevan Hurst's loan spell has come to an end.

McFarland is taking a look at three players this week as he hopes to ease the burden on his thin squad.

"We are a bit thin on the ground obviously but we have three players coming in so we can have a look at them on trial this week," McFarland told the club's official website.

"All three of them are from higher clubs and some of the players have played at a higher level and we will have a good look at them."

Meanwhile, Mark Hughes has been released by Chesterfield after his two-month loan spell at Thurrock came to an end.
