Striker out for 10 weeks after having ankle surgery

Bristol City striker Jon Stead is likely to be out until April after undergoing surgery on a troublesome ankle injury. Stead has been hampered by the problem in recent months and has now been ruled out for at least eight weeks following the operation earlier this week. The 27-year-old had scored six goals since his summer move from Ipswich Town and Robins boss Keith Millen is now likely to try and bring in a replacement before the transfer window closes. Millen told the club's official website: "Jon saw the surgeon on Tuesday and he suggested and went ahead with an operation on his ankle. "Jon had an injection earlier on in the season which settled it down for a little bit, but on this occasion the surgeon felt another injection wouldn't really have too much effect and may even make the problem worse. "It's disappointing but you need to look after the player's health. The best course of action was surgery. "The surgery went well and we're going to be without him for eight-to-ten weeks now. Hopefully he'll return for the final seven or so games of the season."
