Robins shed six

NEWLY promoted Cheltenham Town have confirmed the release of six of their squad.

Manager Steve Cotterill has revealed that Steve Benbow, Gareth Hopkins, Michael Jackson, Hugh McAuley, Jason White and Neil Grayson have all left the club.

"It is amazing in this game that you can go from huge highs like Monday to real lows like having to release players," said Cotterill (pictured).

"It has been a very hard for me to do, especially with players such as Neil Grayson who has been a folk hero at this club.

"The reason we have taken the decision now is to give the players as much time as possible to fix themselves up with other clubs, and also to give them the chance to go on the open top bus tour next week.

"They will be able to celebrate with everyone and have a chance to say goodbye to the fans. In that respect they are fortunate because great players like Jason Eaton and Mark Freeman did not have such a chance when they left."

Town have also transfer-listed Keith Hill, Steve Jones and Carl Muggleton, whilst confirming that all other out-of-contract players would be offered new terms.
