Bristol Rovers have won the race to sign left-back Gary Sawyer on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle.

Bristol Rovers have won the race to sign left-back Gary Sawyer on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle.
Sawyer, who made two appearances on loan at Bristol City towards the end of last season, was out of contract at Plymouth and was reported to have been offered a new deal.
However, the defender has opted for a move to the Memorial Stadium and Rovers manager Paul Trollope is delighted to have beaten off competition from other clubs.
Trollope told the club's
official website: "Gary was out of contract at Plymouth, although we believe he was offered a new contract at Home Park.
"However, he felt that it was time for a fresh start, and we feel that he is a fantastic signing for the football club.
"We beat off a number of other clubs to secure his signature and it took a while, because of that interest and the quality of the player involved.
"He's a player who will add to our defensive strength as he's an excellent defender, good in one on one situations.
"He can pass the ball well and likes to get forward and we feel that his signing is a big coup for the club and we are hoping he can fit in straight away and show us the quality he's shown for Plymouth over a number of years."
