Nathan Jones played down his chances of landing the Brighton manager's job despite guiding them out of the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone.

The Seagulls, looking for a new boss following Sami Hyypia's departure a week ago, beat Fulham 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Adrian Colunga and Solly March.

Tony Pulis, Chris Hughton and Tim Sherwood are among the names linked with the role but in the meantime interim manager Jones is doing a decent job of holding the fort, following up Friday's battling 2-2 draw against Reading with only Brighton's second win in 20 matches.

And the former Albion defender said: "I'm probably being greedy but I'm disappointed we didn't win both games.

"I have a taste for football. I love my job, I love working for this club. I have confidence in what I do.

"I'm proud to have the opportunity to prepare the team for two games, having played for the club I never would have dreamt of doing that and I'm very proud.

"But I don't know if I will be in charge next weekend. Tomorrow will be another day, things may have developed by then."

Brighton made the breakthrough on the hour mark after Elliott Bennett was brought down by Konstantinos Stafylidis in the area.

Spanish striker Colunga, who six minutes earlier had clipped the outside of Marcus Bettinelli's post, coolly sent the Fulham keeper the wrong way for his fourth goal of the season.

And three minutes from time substitute March latched on to Joao Teixeira's through-ball and clipped it past Bettinelli to wrap up a vital win.

Jones' position is not lost on Fulham boss Kit Symons, who had a lengthy audition as caretaker earlier this season while bigger names were bandied around before he was finally given the top job.

"I've been there myself," said Symons. "He's just got to crack on and do the best job he can, and I'm sure he will."

Fulham have been revitalised since Symons took over in September, but they lacked their recent sparkle and only tested their former keeper David Stockdale towards the end when he pulled off fine saves from Sean Kavanagh and Hugo Rodallega.

"It was very disappointing, we never really got going," added Symons.

"It took them to score to spur us into life but we just weren't good enough. The quality wasn't there. There are no excuses really and not too many positives to take."
