Transfer news: Brighton boss Sami Hyypia scouring Finnish market

New Brighton & Hove Albion manager Sami Hyypia has revealed that he will look to his native Finland for possible new recruits.

The former Liverpool defender has inherited a squad at the Amex Stadium that has secured back-to-back play-off finishes in the Sky Bet Championship.

It is, however, imperative to strengthen in each passing transfer window and for continuous improvement to be made and Hyypia has made no secret of his desire to stamp an immediate mark on the Brighton ranks.

He has revealed that he will look to bring in as many as seven players, with goalkeepers and centre-halves considered to be top priorities.

It could be that a number of those signings arrive from Scandinavia, with Hyypia having already drawn up a list of targets.

He told the Finnish media: “I’m always interested in good players.

“I think I know the Finnish players best. I know their mentality.

“I’ve given them (Albion) names of a few Finnish players and asked the club to scout them.”
