Wednesday still unbeaten after comeback win; Rovers flying high
Early leaders Blackpool and mid-table Brighton enjoyed emphatic home wins as the new Championship season continued on Saturday afternoon.
But there was more woe for pointless Peterborough and Crystal Palace as they suffered their third defeats of the campaign.
Promotion hopefuls
Blackpool kept themselves sitting pretty at the top of the table with their third win in as many games, securing an emphatic 6-0 victory over
Ipswich at Bloomfield Road. An early Aaron Cresswell own goal triggered a nightmare afternoon for the Tractor Boys, while Thomas Ince scored a second-half double.
Brighton enjoyed their first win of the campaign as they triumphed 5-1 at home to
Barnsley, marking a second defeat on the bounce for the South Yorkshire side. Ashley Barnes and Craig Mackail-Smith both scored braces for the Seagulls, while loanee Wayne Bridge was also on target.
Blackburn climbed into second place with a 2-1 home victory over
Leicester, with Morten Gamst Pedersen firing home the winner for the hosts with just over 10 minutes left on the clock at Ewood Park.
Championship newcomers
Sheffield Wednesday continued their unbeaten run at home to
Millwall, coming from behind to claim a 3-2 win as Miguel Llera netted a second-half brace.
Midfielder Martyn Woolford grabbed a brace as
Bristol City inflicted a first defeat of the season on
Cardiff, winning 4-2 at Ashton Gate.
Leeds bounced back from defeat by early pacesetters Blackpool last time out with a 2-1 road victory at
Peterborough, with Luciano Becchio netting a brace at London Road to leave the Posh pointless in the table basement.
Another side who have nothing to show from their opening three games are
Crystal Palace after they were beaten 2-1 at
Middlesbrough, with the hosts scoring either side of the break through Seb Hines and Merouane Zemmama.
Derby left it late to snatch a 1-1 draw against
Wolves at Molineux, with substitute Theo Robinson scoring a stoppage-time equaliser.
Huddersfield claimed their first win since rejoining the Championship with a 2-0 home triumph over
Burnley as Joel Lynch and Jordan Rhodes scored either side of half-time.
Neither side could break the deadlock in the clash between
Charlton and
Hull City at The Valley, with the encounter ending in a goalless draw.
In Saturday's late kick-off, first-half goals from Alman Abdi and Matej Vydra secured
Watford a 2-0 home win over
Birmingham City.
