Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal thinks the decision to put Rangers into the Third Division was the right one for football.
The Rangers newco were voted into Scottish football's bottom tier by a majority of 25 of the 30 Scottish Football League clubs earlier in July.
Kayal admits that the SPL will be weaker after Glasgow giants were liquidated, but believes that the only option was for them to start again from the bottom.
"We are talking about the Rangers situation a lot and my feeling is that when it happened to Juventus, Serie A got a lot weaker so what can we say about the Scottish Premier League?" said the 24-year-old.
"However, being fair is more important than anything else and I think that for football this decision is the right one.
"I'm happy I'm at a clean and healthy club with a big tradition and lots of titles."
Forward
Israel international Kayal is aiming to regain full fitness after an ankle injury, picked up against Rangers, ended his 2011/12 season in January.
Celtic lost their
most recent pre-season friendly 4-0 to Ajax, and they could be playing in the third qualifying round of the Champions League as early as 31st July against either HJK Helsinki or KR Reykjavik.
Kayal added, "European competition is starting soon. These friendly games are made to build the team's confidence and to lose isn't good. Players just got back from Euro 2012 and some of them are not in shape.
"We changed a lot of things, we are trying a new strategy but I believe that with this squad we will run forward."
