Baggies to let promising defender leave on loan

Sky Sports understands West Brom plan to send Joe Mattock out on loan once they have wrapped up a deal for Liam Ridgewell. The Baggies are close to completing the capture of Ridgewell from their West Midlands neighbours Birmingham. Should that switch be pushed through, Roy Hodgson will find himself well-stocked on the left side of his defence. Mattock is expected to be the one forced to make way, with the 21-year-old considered to still be finding his feet at Premier League level. He has returned to Hodgson's plans of late, but he took in a loan spell with Championship outfit Portsmouth earlier in the campaign. It was expected that he would return to Fratton Park once he was made available again, but Pompey's financial problems have ended any hope they have of striking a second deal. That means Burnley, Brighton and Nottingham Forest are now being tipped to battle it out for his signature, with all three second tier clubs eager to bolster their defensive ranks.
