Sky Blues boss hoping for more of the same in 2012

Coventry boss Andy Thorn has lauded the 'Premier League quality' of Gary McSheffrey and challenged him to carry on his form through the rest of the season. McSheffrey scored a spectacular opening goal for the Sky Blues after 34 minutes against Brighton before setting up Lukas Jutkiewicz for the second nine minutes into the second half. The win at the Ricoh Arena was the club's second in succession and lifted them off the bottom of the Championship table. Goals in particular have been hard to come by for City so far this campaign but Thorn hopes McSheffrey can maintain his form into the New Year. "Gary McSheffrey showed two real pieces of quality in the final third and that it is what we have been lacking. Gary has Premier League quality, we know that," said Thorn. "That's not him finished for the season, we need him to go right through to the very end for us. "Nobody gets relegated in November and I just felt that if we kept going we'd have that bit of quality and it would come through.

Brighter

"I am pleased that has happened but it's just a start for us. There is a lot of hard work ahead to make the second half of the season brighter. "I never relaxed until I got down the tunnel but I felt we were comfortable even at 1-0. But you know you are never safe with that scoreline so it was nice to get the second and we got our just desserts today. "We've been playing well, barring one or two, and there has never been a lack of confidence. We just haven't been putting teams to bed." Brighton boss Gus Poyet meanwhile feels his side need to get back-to-basics after they slipped to their fourth defeat in a row. "It was average and for us to win games we need to be better than that. We need to be better than just okay," said the Uruguayan. "We passed the ball okay, we created one great chance but that is not enough.
Excuses
"I am not going to make excuses because when you have injuries and suspensions you need to be better. You cannot have three, four or five players not at their best. "Yes we want to get our players back and we'd like to bring some in, blah, blah, blah, but we have to get the basics right. "If you are still in the game for an hour, whoever scores the first goal will probably win the game. "We should have stopped the first goal and we had a very good chance to equalise straight away and if we had taken that, the game would go back to normal."
