Goalkeeper still looking for the chance of first team football on loan

Newcastle's Steve Harper admits he would jump at the chance of another loan deal just hours after returning to Tyneside. The 36-year-old spent a month with Gus Poyet's Brighton and Hove Albion side, where he kept two clean sheets in five appearances. Poyet was keen to extend his deal into the New Year, but the two clubs could not agree on the terms of the loan. And now Harper, who has lost his place at Newcastle to Tim Krul, has got his fingers crossed for another chance to play first team football as the deadline for loan deals looms. "I needed to go out and play some games and get myself up to speed, in case anything happens to Tim," said Harper. "I know the loan deadline's Thursday, so if the right opportunity came up somewhere, I might do another month before Christmas, but the priority now is to get the jab in my knee and rest it for a couple of days."
