Poyet pleased with opening win

Gus Poyet believes his Brighton side were worthy of the 2-1 win over Doncaster which graced the first competitive game at the Amex Stadium.

It had looked as if the Seagulls' return to the Championship would end in defeat as they fell behind to a first-half Billy Sharp goal. But Poyet, who was sent to the stands for contesting a decision with referee Eddie Ilderton, watched his side dominate the second half and they levelled through substitute Will Buckley with six minutes remaining. Buckley then capped his debut off in fine style with a winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time, much to the delight of Poyet. "Up to 60-65 minutes, it was difficult but the last 20 minutes we run over Doncaster and there was only one team having chances, creating opportunities, pushing and really putting the opposition under pressure," he said. "I believe that was down to the winning mentality we created last year, our fitness, a little bit of everything and in the end, overall, we probably deserved it. "It was a great show, I would say entertainment. When you buy a ticket you need to see something that when you go home you are happy about. "To show the kind of football and entertainment you need two teams and I have to say Doncaster did their bit for a great afternoon."
