Former captain returns to Gills from loan spell at Posh

Andrew Crofts has returned to Gillingham after the League Two outfit could not agree a deal with Peterborough to prolong his loan spell. The Gills were still paying a large percentage of their former captain's wages while he was out on loan at the League One high-fliers. The Kent side were keen to renegotiate the deal but the two clubs were unable to strike a new agreement so Crofts - who made nine appearances in two months at Posh - will now return to the Gills. Loan regulations also mean that Crofts will not be able to return to Posh for more than a further month should the two clubs broker a fresh deal when the loan window reopens next week. Crofts - who has been recalled to the Wales squad for their friendly with Poland next week - was stripped of the Gills captaincy in October and later placed on the transfer list by manager Mark Stimson. Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Curtis Weston will be forced to sit out the Gills' home clash with Bradford on Saturday because of a one-match ban after being booked for the fifth time this season at Chester.
