Schofield forced McDonnell in to a fine stop as Andy Booth fired the rebound over and then Taylor-Fletcher was wasteful again in scooping over from close range.
Just two minutes before the break Schofield added to an early booking for taking a free kick before the referee's whistle, when he took an outlandish dive in the box for an early bath.
In the second period Leon Kelly was denied by a magnificent block from Nathan Clarke as Worcester started brightly but early ascendancy was soon tempered by a fine winner from Brandon.
The impressive winger picked up the ball on the edge of the box and beat Smith with an arrow of a strike to send Huddersfield in to the third round.
Kelly and Adam Webster both had efforts saved by Rachubka late on but it is Peter Jackson's side that progress to the next round.
