Brighton boss unsure if midfielder is the player he is looking for

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has revealed that he will decide whether to offer trialist Darren Carter a deal before the weekend. Poyet has been running the rule over the former Birmingham City and Preston North End midfielder over the last two weeks. The 27-year-old free agent has trained with the Seagulls squad and scored for the reserves against Bournemouth earlier this week. Now Poyet hopes to make a decision on Carter's future ahead of Saturday's Championship clash against Hull City. "Darren has got plenty of things I like," Poyet told The Argus. "He's not the exact player I am looking for, but we'll see. "I'm looking for power, presence, athleticism in terms of helping Liam Bridcutt cover the pitch in the middle. We don't have that type of player. "We've got more ball players and when they are at their best we are a very good team. When they are not we look weak, so we need to compensate for that with someone in there. "I don't think Darren's characteristics are those ones, so it's a decision, not bring someone just because you like him. I like 150 players."
