Sampson happy defender wants to stay at Sixfields
Northampton Town defender Paul Rodgers has agreed a new one-year contract to stay with the League Two club.
Rodgers joined the Cobblers on a 12-month deal last summer after being released by Premier League title chasers Arsenal.
The 20-year-old has made 27 appearances for Northampton in all competitions this season after also enjoying a loan spell at Sixfields last term.
Manager Ian Sampson, who signed a new three-year contract on Friday, is delighted that Rodgers wants to stay with the Cobblers.
"Paul Rodgers has verbally agreed a new one-year contract which I'm really pleased with and when I offered him the contract he wanted to sign straight away, which was great," Sampson told the club's official website after Saturday's 3-1 win at Port Vale.
"We will get that paperwork done and I think he will be the first to sign."
